It is the goal of the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School community to help those families who are in need or have suffered a financial setback so that their children can continue to experience the joy and reward of a catholic education.
St. Mary Magdalene Catholic school offers its school families a number of programs to help families afford a catholic education. With both St. Michael and St. Mary Magdalene being less than 9 years old, the cost of educating s student is higher than most catholic schools in the area due to the mortgage on the new buildings. The parishes (St. Michael, St. Andrew, and St. Mary Magdalene work together to help those who need assistance.
Catholic Schools of Southwest Wake County: CSSWC provides financial aid to families that are active members of one of the three sponsoring parishes that built St. Michael the Archangel in Cary and St. Mary Magdalene in Apex. Families apply for aid through F.A.C.T.S. each January. The board made up of members of the three parishes review the FACTS Financial Aid Report and reward aid from $500 to $3100 per student. A maximum of 50% of the yearly tuition is awarded. Awards are made in early April.
Diocese of Raleigh: The Diocese of Raleigh awards scholarships based on its God's Work Our Challenge Campaign. These scholarships are need based. These awards range from $150-$300 per student. Awards are made in April.
For the above two programs, parents must apply each year to be considered for aid.
The following scholarships are available to St. Mary Magdalene School families.
John Nelli Scholarship: The John Nelli Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually based on an essay submission on “How has adversity affected you and/or your loved ones and how has that adversity had a positive impact on your personal and spiritual development?" A scholarship of $500 will be given. Applications with the essay are due by June 1.
Jim and Gail Toups Scholarship: The Toups Scholarship is named for Jim's parents who were big supporters of catholic education. A scholarship of $200 will be given. Application must be submitted by June 1.
Joanne and Al Martin Realtor Referral Scholarships:
Joanne and Al Martin are offering a one time $250.00 Scholarship in the name of Bette Foster. Bette would like the scholarship to be for a Single Parent household for the 2008/2009 school year as her first choice. The child should be part of the "Hands of Christ" community service program. Application must be submitted by June 1.
Joanne and Al Martin are offering a one time $500.00 Scholarship in the name of the Annunziata Family. The Annunziata's would like the scholarship to be offered to a Family in Financial Need for the 2008/2009 school year. Application must be submitted by June 1.
Anonymous Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a family that has many children attending school and is in need of help. The award is a full scholarship for one student for one school year. Scholarship all ready awarded.
