Athletic Bylaws

PURPOSE

It shall be the purpose of the St. Mary Magdalene School Athletic Program to promote and develop good sportsmanship by example, to support team building, and the spirit of competition that reflects the values of the Catholic Church and St. Mary Magdalene Catholic School.

ELIGIBILITY OVERVIEW

  • An athlete must have a physical every year as well as a yearly parental permission form on file in the school office.
  • Athletics fee is $85 per sport.
  • Students in grades 6, 7, or 8 are eligible to participate in sports. If a team can’t be created due to the lack of players, fifth grade students may participate.
  • A student may participate in only one sport per season unless arrangements are made between coaches.
  • An athlete is chosen to be a member of a team solely basis of his/her ability demonstrated during tryouts.
  • Playing time is earned. There is no minimum playing time. The TCSAC is a competitive league.
  • An athlete must have a minimum of C’s or better in all academic classes and an “N” in conduct and a “N” in electives/specials to be eligible. “N” refers to needs improvement. This is based on the latest report card. If a player is ineligible based on the criteria stated upon, the player in question will be suspended from the team for three weeks. At the end of the third week, the athletic director will review the player’s academic progress and determine whether or not he/she is eligible to return to the team. The player in question is not allowed to practice or dress for games during that period.
  • If any athlete is unable to meet the requirements as outlined in this document or is unable to continue, the coach may choice to add a player based on their try-out. The AD/Principal must approve any additions to the team after the team is formed.
  • The AD/Principal has the discretion to remove or suspend any athlete from a team due to academic/behavior problems.
  • If a player misses more than 50% of the school day, he/she is not allowed to participate in a scheduled practice or game on the day in which he/she is absent.
  • An athletic candidate must support their Saint Mary Magdalene Team above all other teams/nonschool.
  • Any member of a StMM sports team who misses a game/practice, leaves early to attend another team’s practice or game without the coach’s approval will result in the player not playing the first half of the next game. If a second incident occurs, the player is dismissed from the team.
